So there was no Farm Friday post last week because of the weather. Most of last week was rainy so we didn’t get much done until Thursday. Friday, I spent much of the day finishing the pea trellis.
Lala got the last of the onions planted.
And our first round of seedling started getting used to the outside.
We started planting the seedlings on Sunday.
We also planted the potatoes. Mr J reconfigured the tines on the plow so that it worked as a furrower which made making ditches for the potatoes easy and fast. We planted seven rows of potatoes.
Which leaves us 3 rows to plant with sweet potatoes in a month or two.
Wednesday morning, I woke up to no water pressure in the house. I got ready for work and as I was leaving the house I heard water running outside, a lot of water. I came around the corner of the house to find that the irrigation line had come off of its fitting and water was spraying out of this one inch line.
I ran back inside to shut the line off in the basement because there isn’t much else I can do at 3:30 am.
Mr. J replaced the fitting today.
Then we planted more of the seedlings.
P is probably thinking that the seedlings look like a good snack. She’s tried to eat them a few times. You might have noticed that I have a few other plants still sitting in the trays. They are extra seedlings looking for a good home.
Elsewhere in the garden…
And over in the future orchard…
We lost two other apple seedlings and neither of these trees bloomed this year because it appears that the deer ate all the ends off the branches during the winter. We plan on replacing the two dead apples and probably buying a third apple and a second plum this year, and it looks like we’ll be fencing this area off.
We also got 100 strawberry plants in the mail today, more on those next week. Hopefully we’ll also get the carrots, beets, radishes, spinach and turnip seeds all planted in the garden this week.
